Croissant French Toast Bake

I love French Toast and yes, I am quite late to the Croissant French Toast Bake train. But better late than never, right? Now I love having French Toast for breakfast or a lazy brunch. But did I want to have Croissant French Toast for breakfast or brunch? No.

I feel like Croissant French Toast Bake is 100% a dessert and sinfully good one, too.

Why This Croissant French Toast Bake Is The Best

The answer to that is pretty simple. I have a whole list of reasons.

  • It’s so smooth and creamy
  • It’s deliciously custardy
  • It’s as foolproof and simple as it gets

But, you know what really sold me on this recipe? The fact that store-bought croissants work just fine. In fact, they are absolutely delicious and you cannot even tell that they’re store-bought.

Essentially, everything about this recipe screams “easy, simple, and delicious.”

This recipe calls for two main components:

  • Croissants
  • French Toast batter

However, you can choose to make your Croissant French Toast as fancy as you would like. I’ll give you some ideas to work with.

How To Jazz Up Your Croissant French Toast Bake

If you’d like to jazz up your Croissant French Toast Bake, you can add in a number of ingredients for added flavor and texture.

I’m a huge fan of varied textures in a dish. I love a crunch with the creamy custardy smoothness of the French toast.

Here are some topping ideas for you:

  • Chocolate chips
  • Powdered sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Sprinkles
  • Fresh fruit
  • Nuts (almonds, pistachios, and walnuts are my favorite)
  • Fresh cream (I love a drizzle of cold fresh cream over a hot serving)
  • Caramel (if you don’t mind excessive sweetness)

Ingredients

  • 3-4 croissants (bonus points if they’re chocolate croissants)

  • For the batter
  • 1 egg

  • 3/4 cup milk

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder (optional)

  • For garnishing (optional)
  • powdered sugar

  • pistachios

  • fresh cream

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 180 °C.
  • Slice your croissants in half, length-wise, and set aside.
  • In a bowl, crack your egg and whisk until fluffy. Add the milk, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon (if you’re using it).
  • Whisk well until combined.
  • Place your croissants in a baking dish. I used a square 7×7 inch baking dish.
  • Now pour your batter all over, making sure the croissants are well soaked.
  • Place your baking dish in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the batter firms up and your sides get dark and toasty. A good test is to shake your baking dish and your batter should have a very slight jiggly to it.
  • Garnish with powdered sugar, pistachios, fresh cream or any other topping of your presence and serve hot.

Notes

  • To avoid your Croissant French Toast from getting soggy, make sure you don’t have a lot of dairy in your batter.
